A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) consisting of a shield blazoned: Per pall Argent, Gules and Azure, over the second and third an Igorot war shield and kris in saltire Or. Attached above the shield a wreath of the colors Argent and Gules three mullets Or. Attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed "LAGING UNA" in Blue letters.
The colors of the shield represent the National colors of the Philippines and the United States. The crossed kris and Igorot war shield represent the two dominant war-like pagan tribes of the islands. The three stars are taken from the Philippine flag and symbolize Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, the three principal islands.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 30 November 1942. It was rescinded/cancelled on 10 August 1959.
